Pittwater House continues to offer subjects from all of the Key Learning Areas of the NSW Board of Studies curriculum.
Throughout Pittwater House, the traditional subjects of English, Mathematics, Sciences, Geography, History and Commerce are emphasized. Though the curriculum is based on the NSW Board of Studies documents, scope and sequence documents are produced by the School staff.
In line with the Board of Studies Requirements, all Students in Stage 4 (Years 7 and 8) are required to study the following compulsory core subjects:
- PDHPE - Personal Development, Health & Physical Education
- Visual Arts
Stage 4 electives
In Year 7, in addition to the compulsory core subjects, students, for the first time in 2016, will be able to choose one Elective Subject from the list below. This subject will be studied throughout Year 7 for three periods each fortnight. Elective classes, to maximise choice, often run in a coeducational format, although all core classes maintain the single gender model.
The Year 7 electives available for selection at Pittwater House in 2016 include:
- STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics)
- Crossing Borders – a cross curricular, critical thinking project
Stage 5 electives
Elective subjects are chosen in Year 9 and 11 and can be viewed via the following links.
In Years 11 and 12, subjects are defined in 'Units' for the NSW Higher School Certificate. Each candidate is required to undertake 12 Units in Year 11 (excluding extension subjects) and a minimum of 10 Units in Year 12. University entrance is calculated on a student's best 10 Units, including 2 Units of English.
The Mathematics Study Centre is available to all students in the Secondary School free of charge. A member of the Mathematics Faculty is available on Tuesday and Thursday afternoons each week from 3.30pm - 4.30pm in WG3. Students may attend on a regular or casual basis and should bring work with them that they wish to focus on.
Pittwater House encourages students to aim high and achieve their best. As preparing for the HSC is one of the hardest challenges students will face, Pittwater House has extensive programs in place to support, encourage and mentor every student.
