Teaching that makes a difference

Our explicit, evidence-based teaching methods help every student understand deeply, think critically, and apply their learning with confidence.

How we teach

At Pittwater House, great teaching is built on clarity, structure and care.

We use explicit teaching – a research-based method where lessons are clearly structured, concepts are taught step-by-step, and students receive direct guidance and feedback. This approach reduces confusion, builds confidence, and leads to stronger outcomes across all year levels.

Every lesson is designed to maximise focus and minimise distraction, helping students stay engaged and absorb knowledge more effectively.

Why it works

Our teaching methods are grounded in the latest research, including:

  • Cognitive Load Theory: Ensuring students aren’t overwhelmed by too much information at once.
  • Rosenshine’s Principles of Instruction: A proven framework for helping students move from understanding to mastery.

Put simply – we don’t just teach students what to learn, but how to learn.

Teaching with purpose

From the early years of schooling through to Year 12, our educators go beyond the syllabus to develop each student’s ability to:

  • Think critically and creatively
  • Solve problems with confidence
  • Communicate clearly
  • Work independently and in teams

These are the real-world skills that set our students up for success.

Passionate, professional teachers

We believe exceptional teaching starts with a culture of ongoing learning.

This commitment to excellence lifts the standard of every classroom – and strengthens the relationships that make learning thrive.

Our teachers:

  • Regularly collaborate in dedicated professional learning teams
  • Pursue advanced qualifications and higher levels of accreditation
  • Use student data to personalise learning and track progress
  • Model lifelong learning and professional growth.

A data-informed approach

Through regular assessments – including NAPLAN, Academic Assessment Services and Progressive Achievement Tests – we identify how each student is progressing and where they need support or challenge.

This allows us to adapt our teaching in real time, so no child is left behind and every learner is pushed forward.

“By carefully analysing student data, we unlock personalised strategies that empower every student to succeed and grow at their own pace.”
