Challenge. Growth. Adventure
The Duke of Edinburgh International Award opens a world of opportunity for young people to discover their potential, build real-world skills, and make a meaningful impact, while having a life-changing adventure.
At Pittwater House, students aged 14 and up are encouraged to take part in this globally recognised program that empowers young people to push beyond their comfort zones, serve their communities, and build skills for life.
Participation is voluntary, but the rewards are profound. The program helps students become:
- More resilient
- More confident
- More independent
- More connected to their communities and themselves.
What’s involved?
To complete the Award, students undertake four key activities:
- Learn a new skill – e.g. cooking, public speaking, coding
- Improve physical fitness – through any sport or active pursuit
- Volunteer – contribute to a cause or help in the community
- Embark on an adventurous journey – a team expedition in a new and challenging environment.
Students are supported throughout by a network of Award leaders, assessors and mentors who guide them through each stage.
Levels of achievement
The Award has three levels, each with increasing challenge and commitment:
- Bronze – For students in Year 8 or above
- Silver – For students aged 15+
- Gold – For students aged 16+
At each level, students tailor their program around their own interests, passions and schedule, allowing for flexibility while still developing discipline and purpose.
Why do it?
The Duke of Edinburgh International Award is a journey of self-discovery, leadership and lifelong growth.
It gives students the chance to:
- Take charge of their own development
- Gain valuable life and work skills
- Make friends and memories that last
- Stand out in university and job applications.
“The Duke of Edinburgh taught me I was capable of far more than I imagined, and gave me the confidence to prove it.”
