Sporting Excellence - Term 1, 2013
The first term of the year has seen Pittwater House students very busy competing in surf lifesaving, swimming carnivals, interschool competitions and a variety of other sporting events. Pittwater House students excelled in many areas over the term.
Surf Lifesaving
Students from the Grammar School have continued with their success representing their local clubs in Surf Lifesaving competitions this season.
Guy Rees had a successful Australia Day Carnival, winning the Cameron relay. Later in the Term Guy also achieved outstanding results at the NSW State Surf Lifesaving Championships.

Isaac followed this up with 1st place in the Ironman, board, brace relay and board rescue and a 2nd place in the swim at the Narrabeen Junior Carnival. The following week he competed at the Manly Nipper Nationals and won the board, came 2nd in the swim and 3rd in the Ironman and all age board relay. Finally, at the Australia Day Carnival, he came 2nd in the board, 3rd in the Ironman and 6th in the surf swim.
Keelan Smith recently received outstanding results in Surf Lifesaving. At the recent Freshwater Australia Day Carnival he came 1st in U14s beach sprint, 5th in U14s flags, and his U14s Relay team from Newport has won at every carnival this season. Keelan has also been nominated by Newport SLSC for the Junior Lifesaver Of The Year award.
Sailing
Finn Gilbert has continued his outstanding sailing results. He is the 2013 Sabot National Champion and followed that up by finishing second in the Flying 11's National Championships. We look forward to more of these outstanding results during the course of the year.
Golf
Tom Harvey (Year 9) achieved 2nd place in the Harvey Norman Junior Week of Golf a Jack Newton Junior Golf Event. The tournament was played through the hottest weather in January at Penrith, Oatlands, Richmond, Windsor and Lynwood.
Tom scored 83,73,75,67 and 75 respectively with a total of 373 for the five rounds, in the Boys 13 years. Tom also shot a bogey free, 4 under par at Windsor Golf Course finishing with a very impressive 67. This was a personal best score for Tom and after playing so well during the holidays his handicap is currently 2.
Athletics
Congratulations to the Molen-Grigull family for outstanding sporting results. Katia and Elisa Molen-Grigull came first and second in High jump and will proceed to the State Championship at Homebush in March. Only the top 2 in the field events will qualify and certainly competition is tough.
Katia Molen Grigull also won the overall point score for Seaforth Little Athletics Club and received the Allan Mountfield Trophy.
Rowing
Robin Molen-Grigull (Class of 2012) won the State Championship in a singlescull in rowing.
Swimming
Congratulations to Sascha Mund de Laurens (Year 2) on his marvellous 1st place at the HICES Swim Meet at Homebush this term. There are few students at Pittwater House more deserving to proudly display a Blue Ribbon.
Water Polo - NSW All Schools
Congratulations to Harry Shaw who this month, represented Combined Independent Schools (CIS) in the NSW All Schools Water Polo competition. Harry was the youngest goalkeeper selected and represented the CIS 2nds with distinction, including keeping a clean sheet in his team's victory over Combined Catholic Colleges 2nds. Harry is to be commended for his dedication to Pittwater House Water Polo in addition to his considerable Club and Representative commitments.
Hockey
Recently, Jack Pickering (Year 9) played in The City Verses Country Challenge which is an annual weekend event for the Junior elite of NSW Hockey. This year the challenge was conducted at the Tamworth Hockey Centre and involved a combination of games, coaching and skill development. In attendance are NSW coaches and selectors so it is an important event for those aspiring to State selection. The regional strength of Hockey in NSW always ensures a tough time for the City boys but to their credit they won a closely fought series on goal difference. Game 1 Country 5- 4, Game 2 City 4-2 Jack played well scoring a goal in each game.
Touch Football
In Term 4 each year, Pittwater House enters a team into the Manly Warringah Touch Football Association Competition. In 2012 Brittany Klein was selected into the Manly Warringah Touch U/18 Girls Representative Team.
The performance of the team along with the performances of our other 11 Representative Teams contributed to the Manly Warringah Touch Association once again being crowned NSW "Champion Club".
