At the end of Term 2, our Year 8 students finished a Possum project, which saw the creation of both possum pouches and boxes to help relocate and house orphaned and injured possums.  

The project was designed to assist the Australian wildlife rescue organisation WIRES, whose mission is to actively rehabilitate and preserve Australian wildlife.

WIRES, based at Forestville, attended a presentation ceremony at Pittwater House to receive the boxes and pouches. During the presentation a spokesperson from WIRES presented the students with a certificate of appreciation and voiced their genuine thanks for the students’ hard work. Bunnings Narrabeen was also thanked as they donated the timber and paint supplies for students to use in the construction of the boxes.

The initiative is part of the School’s Skills & Service program, which runs parallel to the Cadet program for students in Years 7-10 who are not involved in Cadets.  The Skills & Service Program gives students the opportunity to develop various new skills and get involved in special projects that service the community. 

Pittwater House School Principal, Dr Nancy Hillier, said, “This has been a wonderful opportunity to teach students how they can contribute and be valuable members of our community.  Being able to give back has given them an enormous sense of pride”.
