A marine biologist in the making
College student Poppy Fitzgerald has successfully gained a place in a wonderful six-day course run by the University of Tasmania and the Institute for Marine and Antarctic Studies, on Maria Island in Tasmania during the upcoming school holidays.
This practical introduction to temperate Marine Biology is predominantly field-based and Poppy will sample four marine habitats on Maria Island and use the collated data to address a major question which culminates in a group presentation and research essay.
Additionally, her research journal and research performance will be measured. What is so pleasing is the increasing student awareness and acceptance into courses, seminars and fieldtrips that not only extend and enrich their knowledge, but provide insight to possible tertiary placements.
Congratulations to Poppy.
