World Premiere
One of the most ambitious and audacious undertakings ever attempted by a primary school took place at Pittwater House in June with the world premiere of a new opera.
Principal Nancy Hillier commissioned composer Jim Coyle to write a one act opera which will star every child in Years 3-6.
The result was ‘The Selfish Giant’, an opera for children based on the Oscar Wilde short story.
Iranian born Bass-baritone Sepehr Irandoost took the lead role beside eight year old Adele Cosentino from Beacon Hill who played the part of the mysterious and angelic child who becomes the Giant’s dearest friend.
Since his arrival in Sydney, Irandoost has performed in The Magic Flute, La Boheme and Don Giovanni and was the entire cast in another opera by Jim Coyle, Douglas Mawson Walking Alone.
Irandoost was supported by an eight piece professional orchestra of school alumni, teachers and parents.
